I'm not a design studio or agency and never worked with a professional designer. How does this work?

No worries! I'll walk you through the entire process before we start our project to ensure you feel comfortable and confident moving forward. You may have some additional questions that can be answered through these FAQs — but make sure you go through the site along with the SERVICES page to get a well-rounded look at what I provide.

Once we kick off our creative collaboration, I'll be here for guidance every step of the way. I'm here to make this easy-breezy for you. If you've got any additional questions, please feel free to get in touch with me here.

How do I know if we're a good fit and you’re the right designer for me?

Choosing the right designer for your business is a big decision and finding someone you really gel with is key to a successful collaboration and an amazing final product.

First of all, browse through my portfolio of projects to get a sense for my aesthetic and design style. Can you imagine your future branding or project fitting in with my current portfolio? If the answer is yes, it's looking good we're a fantastic fit.

More importantly, be sure my philosophy and creative process resonates with you. I have a good balance between the serious tasks that need to be accomplished and the ability to lighten up the mood when life takes that stressful turn. Sometimes it really is sunshine and rainbows! And yes, I'll break out the crystals and smudging sticks when necessary.

I offer a FREE complimentary 15-minute intro call with all prospective clients as a way to vet each other — making sure we have good synergy and that I understand your vision. If I'm the "peanut butter to your jelly" then it’s your decision whether you want to move forward or not.

You're in Sedona, AZ and I'm somewhere else on the planet. How does the distance work?

Halle-freaking-lujah for technology! Thanks to the marvelous wonders of the internet, distance is NEVER a problem! I’ve worked with clients in multiple states and a few out of the country in Canada and Australia. Most of our communication will be by email and phone calls but we can easily set up a one-to-one or team meeting via Zoom (or Skype if that's what floats yer boat). Scheduling phone calls is uber-easy using my scheduling calendar.

If you're an agency, design studio or brand: I completely understand crazy deadlines and will be available for real-time responses when the you-know-what hits the fan. Dropbox, FTPs, and Google Drive are my BFFs. Need to add me to the team via platforms like Asana or Jira? No problem. I can easily adapt so we can update projects on the fly. No more Manic Mondays!

What can I expect for a turnaround time?

I’ll have a better idea of the scope of your project and the time involved after we discuss your needs, wants, and ideas during the LISTEN + DISCOVER phase of the design process. Then we’ll put together a reasonable timeline that works well for both of us and aligns as closely as we can to your marketing deadlines. Rush projects are not out of the question, but they do incur additional fees as you'll be receiving my undivided attention during that quick sprint.

How long does the process take? What do I need before we start?

It really depends. Some projects can last just 1-2 weeks while more extensive branding, catalog brochures, or UI projects can last 4-8 weeks. Our collaboration will reveal your immediate needs as we schedule in a specific start and finish date. Making sure you are ready to go with copy, any specific images, or providing me with a creative brief will speed up the process.

If this is your first time working with a professional designer, I'll guide you through the entire process — keeping the project in tiptop shape and (as best as I can) the team on schedule — making sure you have your dream project launched ASAP!

Is there a revision process? How many revisions do I receive?

Most projects have a standard set of two revisions included. However, for custom projects we'll agree upon a number of revisions and I'll incorporate that into your design cost estimate. 2-3 revisions is generally suggested so we can stay focused and be efficient. As noted in our signed agreement, any additional revisions beyond our agreed project scope will be billed at my hourly rate.

The revision process is a collaboration. You get the final choice of which design feels best, and if you feel it could be improved or modified to better suit your objectives, I will happily make changes where it's deemed most necessary. You've gotta completely love your designs or we won't move forward.

Who owns the copyright of the artwork and logos?

Once everything is finished and you've given final approval, I'll send you a final project invoice. Once your full invoice is settled, I'll prepare your final files and upload those to Dropbox, FTP, or Google Drive. Please note that Jennifer Phillips Creative is allowed to use all final artwork and concepts for marketing purposes — including sharing it with my audience on social media and my website.

Do you offer à la carte services if I just need a one-off project?

Absolutely! No project is too big or too small — logos, business cards, infographics, social media promotional graphics, catalog design, UI design — whatever you got I can help you make it happen! You can find more information here.

What if I only need branding and/or a logo?

Lucky you...  this is an area of my expertise. But please don't confuse a logo for branding. Branding is more extensive and involves an exploration into the perceptions, feelings, and ideas consumers have about your company. Logos are one of the easiest ways to express some of the essence and characteristics of your brand — but there’s no way a logo can represent everything about your brand as it is only a part.

But don't fret! If you don't have the budget for branding, we can still approach logo explorations for your business without going through the depth of the Brand Exploration process. My logo design packages include not just a fabulous logo, but also logo variations — including submarks, watermarks, patterns, textures, and more.

I've had many successful projects that have started out with just a logo. Just keep in mind we can always go deeper into the process if time and budget is available.

What if I only need a website?

Fantastic! I love responsive design and approach websites in a couple of ways.

If you've recently had a logo designed, I'm happy to work with you by offering web design services. Just a little side note: I really, REALLY think it's best and extremely impactful when your logo and website are crafted together. This way they'll be both cohesive and consistent in the look and feel of the design.

To keep costs down, I've found my sweet spot by creating websites in Squarespace. I find this platform fits the needs of some of my clients that have a tight budget. I also provide a personal meeting to teach the ins and outs of using Squarespace along with being available for free support during the first two weeks after the project is complete.

That said, Squarespace isn't everyone's cup-o-tea.

For this reason, I also offer custom design services when a client or agency needs the responsive design as a Photoshop layered file. For these types of projects, I'll provide a design quote and then team up with a developer or work with a trusted developer of your choice to ensure a smooth as silk transition.

Will you be able to assist with the printing process?

Poo poo on all the naysayers, print is NOT dead! Whoohoo!

By assisting you with the printing process, I can help ensure the final product is exactly how you envisioned it.

If we're working on print collateral and you have no idea who to go to, I've got a handful of fantastic printers I can recommend — ranging in price and services. Alternatively, if you have a go-to printer you’d like to use for your project, I'm happy to work with them as well.

Are you booking new clients?

Heck yes! Is the sky blue?!?!?!

Get ahold of me here.

How far in advance can I book my project?

You'll be able to book with me up to three months in advance. But I'm completely comfortable if you'd like to book your project for later in the year.

Got a RUSH project? No problem. Let's connect ASAP!

I'm ready to get started. How do I hire you?

Let’s chat so we can see what my current availability is right now or feel free to get in touch to discuss a later design timeline.

I'll always do my best to help you meet your marketing deadlines. On the flip side, when we can start the design process truly depends on the nature of your project plus how far out my project schedule is currently booked. I'm typically booked out 1-2 months in advance.... so the sooner you can get in touch, the sooner we can get the ball rollin'!

Need something quicker? Ask about my day rate packages.

Do you have a retainer fee?

Yes! I work with a limited number of clients at a time on a retainer basis.

Establishing a retainer agreement is a wonderful way to lock in an hourly rate and number of hours I'm available to you each month — offering you peace of mind and a way to help avoid those nasty invoice "surprises." My core goal of entering into a retainer agreement is to establish a long-lasting relationship as your trusted creative partner for your business needs.

A deposit of 25% of the total investment is required to hold your spot in my calendar until we finalize our agreement. The retainer fee is non-refundable to make sure that we honor and respect the time I've set aside just for you.

How does payment work and are there any requirements to get the project started?

For most design services, I require a 50% non-refundable deposit to officially book your project in my calendar. The remaining 50% will be broken down into 1-3 payments — earmarked at certain deliverable stages — with the final balance along with any accrued project fees (for example additional change rounds beyond the project scope) due upon completion of the project and before final delivery of files.

If we're working on a Squarespace website, you'll also need to be prepared to purchase your domain and your annual/ monthly Squarespace hosting plan.

Please note: Jennifer Phillips Creative does not broker printing costs.

How do you accept payment?

Invoices are sent digitally via PayPal, which allows you to pay through your bank account or a credit card. This is done for secure payment and ease of use along with speeding up the process to get quickly started on your project.

Paper checks will incur additional processing fees and must clear before project is begun. If you are a long-standing client, I'm happy to set up direct deposit and work with your accounting team to get that seamlessly moving along.
